Description

Baked Apple Fritters are a lighter twist on the classic deep-fried favorite. Packed with tender apple chunks, warm spices, and a hint of vanilla, these golden, bakery-style fritters are soft, fluffy, and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. No oil, no frying—just all the cozy fall flavor you crave, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fritters:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup milk

  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt or sour cream

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups peeled and diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 12 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Prep Oven and Pan:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  2. Make the Batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
In another bowl, beat eggs, then whisk in milk, yogurt, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Pour wet ingredients into dry and mix just until combined (don’t overmix). Gently fold in diced apples.

  3. Form the Fritters:
Scoop heaping spoonfuls of batter onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing a few inches apart. Flatten slightly with the back of the spoon to form fritter shapes.

  4. Bake:
Bake for 13–16 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool slightly.

  5. Make the Glaze:
Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth and pourable. Add more milk to thin if needed.

  6. Glaze the Fritters:
Drizzle or brush glaze over warm fritters. Let set before serving, or enjoy slightly sticky and fresh!

Notes

Use tart apples for balance—Granny Smith works especially well.

Add ¼ cup chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans) for extra crunch.

For more apple flavor, sauté apples with a bit of butter and cinnamon before adding to batter.
