Ingredients
-
¾ cup (12 tablespoons or 1½ sticks) unsalted butter, softened
-
6 tablespoons powdered sugar (spooned and leveled)
-
1 teaspoon almond extract or vanilla extract
-
1⅓ cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
-
6 tablespoons cornstarch (spooned and leveled)
-
¼ cup Christmas sprinkles (nonpareils, jimmies, etc.) for decoration
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add the almond or vanilla extract and mix until combined.
-
Gradually add the all-purpose flour and cornstarch, mixing until just combined.
-
Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, portion out the dough and roll into balls.
-
Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
-
Gently press the top of each cookie with a fork or your fingers to slightly flatten.
-
Sprinkle the tops with Christmas sprinkles.
-
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
-
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
For a lighter texture, ensure the butter is softened but not melted.
Feel free to experiment with different extracts, such as lemon or orange, for a unique flavor twist.
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
For longer storage, freeze the baked cookies in a single layer on a baking sheet, then transfer to a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months.
