Ingredients
Scale
For the Sausage Rolls:
- 1 package puff pastry, thawed
- 1 lb sausage of choice (chicken, turkey, or beef)
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- Optional garnish: sesame seeds or poppy seeds
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the Sausage Filling:
- In a large bowl, combine the sausage, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Prepare the Puff Pastry:
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into long rectangles (about 3-4 inches wide and 10 inches long, depending on your desired size).
- Form the Sausage Rolls:
- Place a portion of the sausage mixture along the center of each rectangle. Roll the pastry around the filling to form a log, sealing the edges by pinching them together.
- Brush with Egg:
- Place the sausage rolls on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for added texture and flavor.
- Bake the Sausage Rolls:
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the sausage filling is fully cooked.
- Serve:
- Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before cutting them into smaller pieces. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce!
Notes
- For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or your favorite hot sauce to the sausage filling.
- These sausage rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
- Try using a variety of sausages like chorizo, breakfast sausage, or even vegetarian options for different flavors.
