Description

These Sausage Rolls are the perfect appetizer for any occasion! Flaky puff pastry wraps around a savory sausage filling, spiced to perfection with garlic, onion, and smoked paprika. Whether you’re hosting a party or just craving a snack, these sausage rolls are sure to be a hit!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sausage Rolls:

  • 1 package puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 lb sausage of choice (chicken, turkey, or beef)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Optional garnish: sesame seeds or poppy seeds

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Sausage Filling:
    • In a large bowl, combine the sausage, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese (if using), garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  • Prepare the Puff Pastry:
    • Roll out the thawed puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut the pastry into long rectangles (about 3-4 inches wide and 10 inches long, depending on your desired size).
  • Form the Sausage Rolls:
    • Place a portion of the sausage mixture along the center of each rectangle. Roll the pastry around the filling to form a log, sealing the edges by pinching them together.
  • Brush with Egg:
    • Place the sausage rolls on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg to give them a golden, glossy finish. If desired, sprinkle sesame seeds or poppy seeds on top for added texture and flavor.
  • Bake the Sausage Rolls:
    • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the sausage filling is fully cooked.
  • Serve:
    • Let the sausage rolls cool slightly before cutting them into smaller pieces. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce!

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or your favorite hot sauce to the sausage filling.
  • These sausage rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen before baking. Just bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
  • Try using a variety of sausages like chorizo, breakfast sausage, or even vegetarian options for different flavors.
