Description

This savory Sausage and Cheese Bread is a perfect combination of rich, flavorful sausage and melty cheese baked into a soft, fluffy loaf. Ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a snack, it’s easy to prepare and full of savory goodness. Whether served warm with a side of marinara sauce or on its own, this bread will be a crowd favorite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage (mild or spicy, depending on preference)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  • In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside to cool.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and oregano.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Stir in the cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and green onions (if using).
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
  • Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, use hot sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • You can substitute the cheddar and Parmesan with other cheeses such as mozzarella or Monterey Jack for a different flavor profile.
  • This bread is great on its own or served with marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
