Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound breakfast sausage (mild or spicy, depending on preference)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 3/4 cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions (optional, for added flavor)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
- In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside to cool.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and oregano.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and melted butter.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Stir in the cooked sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and green onions (if using).
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For a spicier version, use hot sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
- You can substitute the cheddar and Parmesan with other cheeses such as mozzarella or Monterey Jack for a different flavor profile.
- This bread is great on its own or served with marinara sauce for dipping.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
