- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup Nestlé Toll House semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup boiling water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
- Add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
- Stir in the chocolate chips.
- Gradually add the boiling water to the batter and mix until well combined (the batter will be thin).
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost with your favorite chocolate frosting.
