This Mackinac Island Fudge is a rich, creamy, and decadent treat inspired by the famous fudge from Mackinac Island, Michigan. Made with a combination of granulated and brown sugars, heavy cream, and butter, it creates a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth candy. Add in some nuts for crunch and you’ve got the perfect homemade fudge!

- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, heavy cream, and milk.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage (234°F on a candy thermometer).
- Remove from heat and add the butter, vanilla extract, and nuts (if using).
- Beat the mixture until it thickens and loses its gloss.
- Pour the mixture into a greased pan and let it cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- Testing for soft ball stage: To test, drop a small spoonful of the mixture into a glass of cold water. If it forms a soft ball that can be flattened with your fingers, it’s ready.
- For extra flavor: Add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.
- Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
