  • Author: Ellie
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings (fudge squares) 1x

Description

This Mackinac Island Fudge is a rich, creamy, and decadent treat inspired by the famous fudge from Mackinac Island, Michigan. Made with a combination of granulated and brown sugars, heavy cream, and butter, it creates a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth candy. Add in some nuts for crunch and you’ve got the perfect homemade fudge!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, heavy cream, and milk.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture reaches the soft ball stage (234°F on a candy thermometer).
  • Remove from heat and add the butter, vanilla extract, and nuts (if using).
  • Beat the mixture until it thickens and loses its gloss.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased pan and let it cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • Testing for soft ball stage: To test, drop a small spoonful of the mixture into a glass of cold water. If it forms a soft ball that can be flattened with your fingers, it’s ready.
  • For extra flavor: Add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.
  • Storage: Store the fudge in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
