This Classic Lo Mein features tender noodles tossed in a savory and slightly sweet sauce, complemented by a medley of fresh vegetables. It’s a quick and satisfying dish that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or a homemade takeout alternative
Ingredients
For the Lo Mein Sauce:
-
2 tablespoons dark soy sauce
-
1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine
-
2 teaspoons soy sauce
-
1 tablespoon oyster sauce
-
1 teaspoon sesame oil
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1/4 teaspoon white pepper
Instructions
-
Prepare the Sauce: In a bowl, combine dark soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
-
Cook the Noodles: Boil the noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
-
Stir-Fry: Heat a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add a small amount of oil and sauté your choice of protein (e.g., chicken, beef, shrimp, tofu) until cooked through. Remove and set aside.
-
Vegetables: In the same pan, add more oil if necessary and stir-fry sliced vegetables such as bell peppers, carrots, and snap peas until tender-crisp.
-
Combine: Return the cooked protein to the pan, add the drained noodles, and pour the prepared sauce over the top. Toss everything together until evenly coated and heated through.
-
Serve: Garnish with chopped scallions or sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot and enjoy
Notes
For added flavor, consider adding a drizzle of hoisin sauce or a sprinkle of crushed red pepper flakes.
