Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb smoked or Italian sausage (sliced into bite-sized pieces)
- 2 tablespoons butter (for sausage)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper (to taste)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
- 12 oz pasta (penne or fettuccine)
- 2 tablespoons butter (for pasta)
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside, reserving 1/2 cup of pasta water.
- While the pasta is cooking, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced sausage to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant. Stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Add the heavy cream to the skillet and bring it to a simmer. Cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the cream to thicken slightly.
- Stir in the Parmesan cheese and garlic powder, mixing until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. If the sauce gets too thick, add a little reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
- Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to coat in the creamy sauce. Stir in the cooked sausage bites and mix well.
- If desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes for a little extra heat and garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
- You can use any type of sausage you prefer, such as chicken sausage or turkey sausage for a lighter version.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free pasta.
- If you like your dish with a bit more heat, adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to your taste.
- Make sure the sausage is cooked through before adding it back to the creamy pasta sauce for the best flavor.
