Ingredients
For the Stir-Fry:
-
8 oz (225g) rice noodles (or lo mein/udon noodles)
-
1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
-
2 tablespoons cornstarch
-
3 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
-
1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
-
2 cups (120g) broccoli florets
-
3 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
For the Sticky Sauce:
-
1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
-
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
-
2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
-
2 tablespoons rice vinegar (or lime juice)
-
1 tablespoon sesame oil
-
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Noodles: Cook the rice noodles (or lo mein/udon noodles) according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
-
Prepare the Beef: In a small bowl, toss the thinly sliced beef with cornstarch until well-coated.
-
Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the beef and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside.
-
Cook the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the remaining vegetable oil. Add the sliced red bell pepper, broccoli florets, and green onions. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
-
Add Aromatics: Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the vegetables. Stir-fry for another 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
-
Prepare the Sauce: While the vegetables are cooking, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey (or brown sugar), rice vinegar (or lime juice), sesame oil, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl until combined.
-
Combine: Add the cooked beef back into the skillet, then pour the sticky sauce over the mixture. Stir to coat everything evenly.
-
Toss the Noodles: Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and toss everything together, making sure the noodles are coated in the sticky sauce and mixed with the beef and vegetables.
-
Serve: Serve the sticky beef noodles hot, garnished with extra green onions if desired.
Notes
-
If you want extra heat, you can increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a splash of sriracha.
-
Feel free to substitute the beef with chicken or tofu for a different protein option.
-
The dish pairs well with steamed rice if you prefer that over noodles.
