Description

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped dates
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a small bowl, combine chopped dates and boiling water. Stir in the baking soda and let the mixture stand for a few minutes.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, butter, and egg until smooth. Stir in the date mixture.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until well combined.
  • Fold in the chopped walnuts.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Notes

  • You can replace walnuts with pecans or other nuts if desired.
