Description

Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings is a warm, comforting dish that’s perfect for chilly days. With tender chicken, hearty vegetables, and soft, pillowy dumplings, this slow-cooked classic is a one-pot meal that’s easy to prepare and full of flavor. Let the crockpot do all the work while you enjoy a cozy, satisfying meal with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 4 cups chicken broth

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 3 medium carrots, peeled and sliced

  • 2 celery stalks, chopped

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of celery soup

  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas

  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough (for dumplings)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken and Vegetables: Place the chicken breasts, chicken broth, onion, carrots, celery, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper in the crockpot. Stir to combine.

  • Cook: Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or on high for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

  • Shred the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the crockpot and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the crockpot.

  • Add Soups and Peas: Stir in the cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, and frozen peas.

  • Make the Dumplings: Tear the biscuit dough into pieces and drop them on top of the chicken mixture in the crockpot.

  • Cook the Dumplings: Cover and cook on high for an additional 1 hour, or until the dumplings are cooked through.

  • Serve and Enjoy: Once the dumplings are done, serve the Chicken and Dumplings hot, and enjoy

Notes

  • Substitute for Chicken: You can use bone-in chicken breasts or thighs for more flavor, but boneless skinless is faster and easier.

  • Dumpling Variations: If you prefer a different type of dumpling, you can use homemade biscuit dough or drop scone-style dumplings.

  • For Creamier Soup: You can add a bit of heavy cream to make the soup extra creamy.

  • Vegetable Variations: You can add other vegetables, such as potatoes, corn, or green beans, for a heartier dish.

  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 6–7 hours (Low) or 3–4 hours (High), plus 1 hour for dumplings
