Ingredients
Scale
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until warm (120-130°F).
- Add the milk mixture and egg to the dry ingredients. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then on high for 3 minutes.
- Stir in the remaining flour to form a soft dough.
- Turn onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes.
- Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Divide dough in half. Roll each half into a 12-inch x 7-inch rectangle.
- Spread Nutella over dough and sprinkle with hazelnuts.
Notes
- Make sure the milk is warm but not too hot, as temperatures above 130°F can kill the yeast.
- For a more golden finish, you can brush the buns with an egg wash (1 beaten egg + 1 tbsp water) before baking.
- You can make the dough ahead of time and refrigerate it for a slower rise if desired.
