Description

These Asian Chicken Wonton Tacos combine crispy wonton wrappers with flavorful, savory chicken and a tangy, sweet slaw. Topped with fresh cilantro, sesame seeds, and sweet chili sauce, they make for a delicious and unique twist on tacos!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 2 chicken breasts, finely diced

  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp minced fresh ginger

For the Asian-Inspired Slaw:

  • 1 (397g) bag coleslaw mix

  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp honey

For Tacos and Toppings:

  • 16 wonton wrappers

  • Sweet chili sauce (for serving)

  • Chopped cilantro (for serving)

  • Sesame seeds (for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken:
In a medium bowl, combine the diced chicken, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and ginger. Toss to coat the chicken evenly.
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated chicken and cook for 6-8 minutes, or until the chicken is fully cooked and lightly browned. Set aside.

  • Make the Asian-Inspired Slaw:
In a large bowl, combine the coleslaw mix and sliced green onions.
In a small bowl, whisk together the sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Pour the dressing over the coleslaw and toss until well combined.

  • Prepare the Wonton Wrappers:
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Lightly grease a muffin tin or taco holder to shape the wonton wrappers into taco shells. Place one wonton wrapper into each section, pressing down gently to form a cup.
Bake in the preheated oven for 6-8 minutes or until crispy and golden brown. Remove and let cool slightly.

  • Assemble the Tacos:
Once the wonton shells are cooled, fill each with a spoonful of the cooked chicken mixture and top with the Asian-inspired slaw.
Drizzle with sweet chili sauce, and garnish with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds.

  • Serve:
Serve the tacos immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can substitute the chicken with ground turkey or chicken thighs for a different texture or flavor.

  • If you prefer a crunchier taco shell, you can deep fry the wonton wrappers instead of baking them.

  • For a vegetarian version, replace the chicken with tofu or tempeh.
