Ingredients
-
1½ cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
-
½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
-
½ cup (110 g) brown sugar, packed
-
½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, room temperature
-
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp almond extract
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
¼ tsp salt
-
Optional: ½ cup sliced almonds (for topping)
-
Optional: powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
-
Prep: Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C). Line an 8×8″ pan with parchment paper or grease it.
-
Cream sugars & butter: In a bowl, cream butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
-
Add eggs & extracts: Mix in eggs one at a time, then stir in almond and vanilla extracts until combined.
-
Dry ingredients: Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add to wet mixture, stirring just until combined.
-
Spread & top: Spread batter evenly into prepared pan. Sprinkle sliced almonds on top if desired.
-
Bake: Bake 20–25 min, or until top is golden and the center is set (toothpick should come out mostly clean).
-
Cool & slice: Let cool fully in the pan, optionally dust with powdered sugar, then slice into bars.
Notes
Use room-temperature butter for smoother mixing.
Don’t overbake to keep centers chewy.
Line pan for easy removal and clean cuts.
Chill before slicing for neater bars.
